Annual Dia de los muertos Exhibition & Celebration

Día de Muertos or Día de los Muertos is a holiday celebrated in Mexico and elsewhere associated with the Catholic celebrations of All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day. Held on November 1 and 2 the multi-day holiday involves family and friends gathering to pray for and to remember friends and family members who have died. It is commonly portrayed as a day of celebration rather than mourning. The festivity has become a national symbol and as such is taught in the nation's school system, typically asserting a native origin.

Each year Xico hosts a celebration to remind our community of these ancient traditions. In previous years we have hosted an “Annual Day of the Dead Glow Party and Exhibition” which displays neon artwork under black lights. Fun activities include a Catrina/Catrin glow costume contest, live music, Calavera face painting, and much more!

In 2020 we took these festivities to the world wide web hosting our Calavera face painting competition on social media. You can enjoy an exhibition of all of our received submissions below under “Vida o Muerte”.
