REZMO, is an emerging artist located in Scottsdale, AZ also known as Natasha Martinez. Her alias "REZMO" comes from her graffiti name. She has been painting walls since 2003 and received her degree from the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, NM. REZMO's art has taken her to many places she never thought possible. REZMO's culture and children are her biggest inspirations. Growing up on and off the Navajo Nation reservation near Gallup, NM REZMO was raised practicing traditional beliefs, superstitions, ceremonies, language, and hearing stories of her culture. Also Mexica through the family of her father REZMO always felt a little different being mixed. When she went to art school at IAIA she met many others struggling with the same internal discourse because they were more than one ethnicity. Through art, REZMO found her way. Writing graffiti lifted her voice and freed her. REZMO started painting on canvas, ignoring comments from different people such as "Your Navajo, paint Navajo art". REZMO never felt like that would express her whole self. The images that she paints now represent how both of her cultures can be represented harmoniously in one painting even though there are conflicting beliefs between the two.
